The California Supreme Court rejected a defense petition seeking its review of the case of rapper Tory Lanez, who was convicted of shooting hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion in the feet during a 2020 dispute in the Hollywood Hills.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lanez, now 33, was found guilty in December 2022 of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lanez (real name, Daystar Peterson) was sentenced in August 2023 to 10 years in state prison.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a 46-page ruling last November, a three-justice panel from California\u2019s 2nd District Court of Appeal rejected the defense\u2019s contention that there were errors in the rapper\u2019s trial.<\/span><\/p>\n

The justices noted that the testimony was \u201cmore than sufficient to support the jury\u2019s finding that Peterson personally inflicted great bodily injury on\u201d Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the trial, Megan Thee Stallion testified that Lanez shot her during a July 12, 2020, argument following a get-together at Kylie Jenner\u2019s home. She said that she had no doubt that Lanez fired the shots, and that he later offered her $1 million not to say anything. According to the singer, Lanez told her to \u201cdance, bitch,\u201d and then shot her in the feet.<\/span><\/p>\n

Under cross-examination during the trial, the Grammy Award-winning singer said she initially had no intention of talking about what had happened and \u201cdidn\u2019t want to be a snitch,\u201d but felt she had to \u201cdefend my name\u201d when she saw that people were \u201cmaking things up\u201d and suggesting that she hadn\u2019t been shot.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the sentencing hearing, Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott said Lanez shot Megan Thee Stallion because she \u201cbruised his ego.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe shooting was because of the argument in the car,\u201d the prosecutor said, calling it an \u201cact of misogyny\u201d against her.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of Lanez\u2019s attorneys, Jose Baez, called that argument \u201cnuts.\u201d He said there was \u201cno denying that alcohol was involved.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re talking about foolish, reckless behavior that could have been much worse \u2026 The intent was not to take someone\u2019s life,\u201d Baez said of the shooting.<\/span><\/p>\n

Baez said the defendant \u201cadmittedly was highly intoxicated\u201d the night of the shooting and didn\u2019t even remember afterward what the topic of the argument was.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2024, Megan Thee Stallion filed a request for a restraining order against Lanez<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, claiming he was orchestrating a harassment campaign against her from behind bars, conspiring with \u201cbloggers\u201d who post what she claims are defamatory statements about her on social media, questioning the veracity of her claims against Peterson and the evidence that was presented at his criminal trial.<\/span><\/p>\n
