K-Dee Gangsta<\/strong><\/a><\/span> off the upcoming AllFrumTha I Lost Tapes album.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Binky Mack and Squeak Ru, take it back to Inglewood\u2014who were y\u2019all before Allfrumtha I, and what kind of environment shaped the sound and attitude you brought to West Coast hip-hop?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Binky Mack:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0In the \u2018hood\u2014street-smart, hustlin\u2019, always trying to figure out the next move. Having fun, baggin\u2019, and laughin\u2019. We bring all that to our sound. Now, with freedom and control of our music, you ain\u2019t heard nothin\u2019 yet. We do it for love, not deadlines.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Squeak Ru:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0We were just two guys from the neighborhood trying to figure out life, dealing with the everyday realities of being Black men in America. The ups and downs in our community shaped us, and we put those stories into our music. That\u2019s what built our sound and attitude.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The name Allfrumtha I always stood out\u2014what does it really represent, and what was the meaning behind that identity when you first stepped into the game?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Binky Mack:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0It\u2019s just the two of us in the group, but we represent the whole city. All Frum Tha I\u2014Inglewood.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Squeak Ru:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0The name stands for all of Inglewood. That\u2019s what we represent\u2014the city and the people.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Your first big look came through Mack 10 and Hoo-Bangin\u2019 Records\u2014how did that connection come together, and what was it like being part of that Westside movement at its peak?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Binky Mack:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0Me and Mack were in 1st Amendment back in the early \u201990s. After he linked with Cube, he came back and grabbed us. The Westside movement was\u2014and still is\u2014amazing. We\u2019re still carrying the torch.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Squeak Ru:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0We weren\u2019t actually on Hoo-Bangin\u2019. We were on One Productions through Priority Records. The connection came from growing up in the same Inglewood neighborhood\u2014the North Side. We\u2019re just grateful to be part of hip-hop history.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">You appeared on Westside Connection\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><em><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Bow Down<\/span><\/span><\/em><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0during one of the most powerful moments in West Coast rap\u2014what do you remember about recording <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/rapindustry.com\/westside-connection-hoo-bangin-wscg-style\/\">\u201cHoo-Bangin\u2019 (WSCG Style)\u201d<\/a><\/span> and being around Cube, WC, and Mack 10 during that era?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Binky Mack:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0It was a dope experience. When you\u2019re around dopeness, it rubs off. That Cube-produced beat was one of my favorites. We had a blast recording it.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Squeak Ru:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0I didn\u2019t realize how big it was going to be. Being around everyone felt like family. We already had a relationship with Mack, and Cube and Dub welcomed us in.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Before your debut album dropped, you were already on major soundtracks like\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><em><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The Substitute<\/span><\/span><\/em><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><em><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Gang Related<\/span><\/span><\/em><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">, and\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><em><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Thicker Than Water<\/span><\/span><\/em><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">. How important were those early placements in building your buzz?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Binky Mack:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0Major. Anything you can do to build momentum helps. Imagine if we had social media back then\u2014it would\u2019ve been crazy.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Squeak Ru:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0Very important. We were building exposure, and Cube told us that by the time we dropped, the whole world should know who we are.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">When the Allfrumtha I debut album dropped in 1998, it had that unmistakable Westside energy\u2014what was the mindset in the studio when you were crafting that record?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Binky Mack:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0Just doing what we do. We\u2019d been recording for years before that. The goal was to make even doper music while still building on our earlier work.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Squeak Ru:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0Just staying true to who we are and adding our element to the Westside Connection sound.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Tracks like \u201cCounty Jail\u201d hit with a different kind of reality\u2014what inspired that song, and why was it important for you to tell that side of the Los Angeles story?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Binky Mack:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0I started with the Roger sample, and it just took off from there. Squeak came in and wrote something dope.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Squeak Ru:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0In L.A., people from all walks of life deal with the legal system. I wanted to write something everyone could relate to, so I spoke on one of my own experiences.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">On the flip side, songs like \u201cFill My Cup (To Tha Rim)\u201d brought the party and the Westside vibe\u2014how did you balance street storytelling with those celebratory records?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Binky Mack:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0That was Dutch on the beat. I haven\u2019t heard it in a minute, but I remember it being fun to make\u2014and shooting the video was a good time.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Squeak Ru:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0Honestly, I was just trying to be as clever as I could.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Binky, you handled production on the debut\u2014what was your approach to building beats that captured that Inglewood sound but still knocked across the whole West Coast?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Binky Mack:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0I was knocking out five tracks every other day, sending them to Squeak, and he\u2019d write. That same formula is what we\u2019re using now for the new album.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The West Coast scene has gone through waves and eras since the \u201990s\u2014how do you see the legacy of that G-funk and Hoo-Bangin\u2019 movement today?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Binky Mack:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0Some people forgot\u2014we\u2019re in a microwave era now. But it\u2019s on us to remind them, and that\u2019s what we\u2019re doing with the\u00a0<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Lost Tapes<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0album dropping (soon).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Squeak Ru:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0I see it coming back.
