As the Real Housewives of Atlanta <\/a><\/em>premiere draws near, sophomore Shamea Morton Mwangi<\/a> is stepping into unapologetic and unabashed confidence.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m still a loyal friend. I\u2019m still a ride-or-die,\u201d she told BOSSIP. \u201cBut I\u2019m only loyal to those that deserve it. And I am unapologetically me.\u201d<\/p>\n

During #RHOA\u2019s \u201csweet sixteen\u201d season, Shamea burst onto the scene, declaring that she was done \u201cplaying the underdog\u201d and was ready to outshine the \u201cbest of \u2019em.\u201d<\/p>\n

That shine included opening the doors to her $9M mansion, showing off her singing skills, and sharing her surrogacy story. It also came amid an unfortunate friendship fallout with her longtime best friend, Porsha Williams. <\/a><\/p>\n

After tension brewed between them throughout the season, the two confirmed at the season 16 reunion that they were no longer in communication, with Williams alleging Morton entered the show with a \u201cscheme and a plan\u201d to sabotage her. That turned into a social media spat<\/a> littered with warnings<\/a> and insults. <\/p>\n

Speaking with BOSSIP\u2019s Managing Editor, Dani Canada<\/a>, Shamea said that the entire experience shifted her mindset and taught her to cut the people pleasing and prioritize herself. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t walk on eggshells, and you can\u2019t protect everyone else\u2019s feelings,\u201d she said. \u201cYou\u2019ve got to care about yourself more than everyone else, and that\u2019s what I\u2019m doing this season.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m speaking up about the things that I like and don\u2019t like. I\u2019m standing on my own two feet, and I\u2019m not brushing things under the rug anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the housewife, she held back to preserve certain relationships, but those days are over. <\/p>\n

\u201cLast season I was trying to protect certain people and not really even being me,\u201d she said. \u201cThis year, I\u2019m unapologetically me.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if you want the smoke, then hi. I\u2019m not a smoker, but I got a fire extinguisher,\u201d she added with a laugh.<\/p>\n

Shamea\u2019s growth isn\u2019t just showing up in her friendships. In a rare Housewives move, she previously released a YouTube video titled Dear Sweet 16<\/em>, where she addressed her castmates by name, owned any hurt caused during her first season, and made it clear she was ready to move forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sorry if I\u2019ve ever offended you\u2026 or caused you pain in any way,\u201d she said in the video, adding that she hoped to \u201cstart fresh.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shamea told BOSSIP that it wasn\u2019t for optics, but for her own peace.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cMy mom and dad always taught me, don\u2019t go to bed with things heavy on your heart,\u201d she said. \u201cDon\u2019t carry that negativity because it will weigh on you. The apology is not necessarily for the other person. It\u2019s for you. It\u2019s you giving yourself grace to move on,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The gesture drew mixed reactions within the group, especially from Drew Sidora who questioned its sincerity.<\/a> Shamea responded directly with shade.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe wouldn\u2019t know what performative sounds like because that\u2019s what she does all the time,\u201d she told BOSSIP. \u201cWe have yet to meet the real Drew.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And while one housewife might question Shamea\u2019s intentions, she can depend on fellow housewife Kelli Ferrell <\/a>to continue being a consistent source of support. <\/p>\n

As Shamea put it at BravoCon<\/a> in November, she lost a friendship [with Porsha Williams] but gained her \u201cbiggest blessing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cKelly is really a breath of fresh air,\u201d Shamea told BOSSIP. \u201cWe hang out when the cameras aren\u2019t even present. If I\u2019ve got something going on, she\u2019s there. We are family at this point.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The connection extends beyond filming. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat friendship is so organic for me. We rarely even talk about the show. We\u2019re just living life,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Speaking of off-camera, Shamea is also expanding her entrepreneurial reach by working with Grenada-based Clarke\u2019s Court Rum.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact that they would allow me to be a part of it, it\u2019s just a blessing,\u201d she said of the spirits brand. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She\u2019s also weighing in on the season\u2019s two newcomers, Pinky Cole and K. Michelle, who are stepping into the fold and opening themselves up to Bravo\u2019s passionate fanbase, where opinions run strong on everything, including who holds the best vocals in the cast: Shamea, K. Michelle, or Drew Sidora.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s room for everyone,\u201d said Shamea about fans debating about their singing skills. \u201cEverybody\u2019s talented in their own way.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Ultimately, Shamea hopes that fans will see her renewed sense of self amid the drama, dynamics, and serially shifting friendships of Season 17.<\/p>\n
