JA\u0178-Z <\/a>is speaking out after the lawsuit accusing him and Sean \u201cDiddy\u201d Combs of raping a 13-year-old girl was dismissed, sharing new details about the emotional toll it took on him and his family.<\/p>\n

As previously reported, in a declaration filed in Los Angeles on Feb. 10, 2025, the 55-year-old rapper accused attorney Tony Buzbee of intentionally causing emotional distress by filing the lawsuit at a particularly sensitive moment in his life.<\/p>\n

According to reports from PEOPLE,<\/em> <\/a>Jay said in his filing that he believes the complaint was strategically submitted the night before his daughter Blue Ivy\u2019s<\/a> Mufasa: The Lion King<\/em> premiere, forcing him into an impossible decision. He said the timing was meant \u201cto put me in the position of having to choose between supporting my daughter or hiding to avoid the negative press.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the declaration, the rapper described feeling cornered by the situation, saying, \u201cI felt that Mr. Buzbee was placing a gun to my head that I either bow to his demands or endure personal and financial ruin.\u201d He also alleged that the claims cost him $20 million in business deals and caused ongoing \u201cmental anguish\u201d after the lawsuit was filed in October 2024.<\/p>\n

The original suit, filed on Oct. 20, 2024, accused both Jay-Z and Combs of sexually assaulting a minor at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000.<\/a> Jay-Z was added to the complaint two months later. The case was voluntarily dismissed<\/a> with prejudice on Feb. 14, 2025, by Buzbee and co-counsel Antigone Curis, meaning it cannot be filed again.<\/p>\n

Shortly after the dismissal, JA\u0178-Z <\/a>called the outcome \u201ca victory\u201d in a statement shared on Roc Nation\u2019s X account, while also highlighting the impact the allegations had on his loved ones.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cToday is a victory,\u201d he wrote at the time. \u201cThe frivolous, fictitious and appalling allegations have been dismissed. This civil suit was without merit and never going anywhere. The fictional tale they created was laughable, if not for the seriousness of the claims. I would not wish this experience on anyone. The trauma that my wife, my children, loved ones and I have endured can never be dismissed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, in a new interview with GQ<\/a><\/em>, Hov gave further insight into what that period felt like behind the scenes, describing how the situation pulled him into a rare emotional space.<\/p>\n

\u201cI needed the people around me more than ever because usually when I have that feeling, I would just make music and it would be therapeutic. I\u2019d be able to [exhales], blow it out and I would move on. I had to sit in that for a long time,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve built this circle that\u2019s really safe for me of people that really love me, are not using me, and really care for my best interests. So I was able to have that in the most crucial time for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He went on to say that the ordeal revealed who truly supported him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also got to see how people felt about me, especially people that were close to me,\u201d he explained. \u201cSo when those types of things happen, people run, they don\u2019t care what happened. It\u2019s like, save yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Jay-Z recalled reaching out to business partners as the situation unfolded, including a contact at LVMH, and being met with immediate support. He also detailed telling Beyonc\u00e9 <\/a>about the allegations. <\/p>\n

\u201cI called my guy from LVMH: \u2018Hey, man, this is coming and I can\u2019t get rid of it.\u2019 I can\u2019t take a settlement, it ain\u2019t in my DNA. First of all, first I had to tell my wife. Let\u2019s back up. I know the weight that this is going to bring on our family. I can\u2019t do it. I would die.\u201d<\/p>\n

He doubled down on that stance when asked about settling the case.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I settled, make that thing go away. And for me, it would\u2019ve been cheaper? Yes. Cheaper, quicker, move on with your life. I knew what was coming. I wasn\u2019t naive,\u201d he said. \u201cI called, again, after my family, my partners. They were like, \u2018What do you need to help? Don\u2019t even worry.\u2019 In a phone call. Not even a: \u2018I got to go to the board with this.\u2019 It was like a testament because people know me. Like: \u2018I know who you are and that\u2019s impossible. Not only are we standing by you, but what do you need?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Despite the legal win, JA\u0178-Z admitted he is still processing the emotional impact.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cI\u2019m still dealing with that. Because that\u2019s a horrible thing to put on someone,\u201d he said to GQ, noting the timing once again. \u201cIt was like released the night of my daughter\u2019s [movie] premiere.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He also shared that attending the event with Blue Ivy was not an easy decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course that\u2019s a question because this is her moment. But our family, we are a tight unit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He became emotional recalling a moment that underscored their bond.<\/p>\n

\u201cBlue has this jersey with \u2018Jay-Z\u2019 on the back. She put it on one day. She went to school with the \u2018Jay\u2019 [points to his back]. I was just in the corner, like tears coming down. Seriously. To have that, it\u2019s priceless,\u201d he said. \u201cPeople can say that they\u2019ll always be there for you, but it\u2019s very rare that you\u2019re going to have to exercise it. And in the darkest moment for me, I got to see those sorts of things.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rapper also reflected on fatherhood, saying his children have given his life deeper meaning amid the challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt gives everything meaning, everything,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ll go cross-country, do what I have to do, and I\u2019m back on the plane that night. I love taking them to school. I love picking them up. Everything means so much more.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He added that watching Blue Ivy grow into her own, especially during Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s Cowboy Carter <\/em>tour, has been a highlight.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was amazing,\u201d he said. \u201cOn the first tour there was a lot of conversation around her first performance, and she worked really hard to get to that point, but she still wasn\u2019t going for it. She still was going through the motions. And then she just started fighting back. I saw her fight maybe for the first time in her life.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cShe\u2019s almost on every number. I had to take her off some, like, \u2018Man, you can\u2019t be on that stage when she\u2019s singing \u2018Six-inch heels\u2026\u2019; are you crazy?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The proud father also revealed that Blue has a natural knack for music.<\/p>\n

\u201cBlue is a crazy pianist, but she won\u2019t let us get her a teacher. She doesn\u2019t want it to be a job. But she has perfect pitch. If she hears a song, she\u2019ll be like \u2018Play it again\u2019 and then she\u2019ll teach herself,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s just talent, she doesn\u2019t work at that. She worked at this, and it makes me proud that she fought for something that she really wanted to do. I don\u2019t think we\u2019re going to be able to get her off that stage now.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
