The man found murdered inside the trunk of a Ford Bronco, parked in front of the UAS Agronomy Faculty in Culiac\u00e1n, was the nephew of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to reports, the deceased was identified by his family as 41-year-old Sergio Rodolfo C\u00e1zares Zambada, a resident of the Las Quintas neighborhood in the state capital.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

C\u00e1zares Zambada’s body was discovered in the final minutes of Sunday, February 8, in the trunk of a gray, late-model Ford Bronco SUV, which had been abandoned on the Culiac\u00e1n-Eldorado highway in front of the UAS Agronomy Faculty in the Costa Rica district.<\/p>\n

The deceased was wearing black pants and a black t-shirt and had multiple gunshot wounds.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

During Tuesday’s morning press conference, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar Garc\u00eda Harfuch, was questioned about the case and responded that the identity isn\u2019t yet confirmed and that the incident is part of a broader context of recent violence in the state.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“We still don’t have a confirmed identity. As soon as we do, we will release the specific identity of this person. There is no complete information on this case,” he stated.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Sergio Rodolfo C\u00e1zares, son of \u00c1gueda Zambada Garc\u00eda, sister of Mayo Zambada, was arrested in 2012 along with his cousin Omar Ismael Zambada, son of Jes\u00fas Reynaldo “El Rey” Zambada, while traveling in a vehicle in Tijuana, Baja California.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

During that arrest, authorities seized at least 20 kilograms of cocaine from the car they were traveling in, and also arrested two people identified as bodyguards, Ra\u00fal Palacios and Cristhian Villalpando.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The detainees were transferred under heavy security to Mexico City, where they were placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office and the Specialized Organized Crime Investigation Unit (SIEDO), but were later released.<\/p>\n
