Sinners<\/em> star Wunmi Mosaku<\/a> revealed the \u201cpainful\u201d BAFTAs backlash \u201ctainted\u201d her victory that night, and slammed the BBC for airing the N-word: \u201cNot sure I can forgive it.\u201d However, she clarified that there are \u201cno hard feelings\u201d towards Tourette\u2019s Syndrome activist John Davidson.<\/p>\n

The BAFTAs should have been a night of shining celebration for Mosaku and the Sinners<\/em> team. Yet, when she cried that night, she wasn\u2019t shedding tears of joy thanks to BAFTA and the BBC mishandling the situation. As BOSSIP previously reported, Davidson yelled the slur<\/a> multiple times throughout the ceremony, including when Delroy Lindo<\/a> and Michael B. Jordan<\/a> were onstage to present the best visual effects award.<\/p>\n

Like the rest of the film\u2019s cast and crew who\u2019ve spoken out, Mosaku places no blame on Davidson\u2019s involuntary tic. In a red carpet interview at the 2026 Actor Awards, she opened up about the difficult moment and its aftermath with Entertainment Tonight<\/em>. She echoed co-star Jayme Lawson in calling out the BAFTAs & BBC\u2019s \u201cexploitation\u201d of Davidson\u2019s condition<\/a>, noting that he also deserved better protection that night. <\/p>\n

\u201cI was there and it was painful to have that celebration really tainted for me. I have no hard feelings towards John Davidson at all. He has a condition!\u201d she emphasized, showing compassion for the involuntary tic.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like BAFTA has a lot of lessons to learn. I think [Sinners<\/em>\u00a0costar]\u00a0Jayme Lawson\u00a0said it yesterday. It felt exploitative and performative to have someone there without the full protection of everyone \u2013 including him \u2013 and anyone in that audience. There were children in that audience. That\u2019s one thing,\u201d she began.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cAnd then the BBC is a whole other thing. That\u2019s the bit that really kind of kept me awake at night and brought tears to my eyes. I was like, \u2018You really chose to keep that in.\u2019 I can\u2019t understand it. And I\u2019m not sure if I can forgive it,\u201d Mosaku continued. <\/p>\n

BAFTA jury member Jonte Richardson felt the same way because the \u201cutterly unacceptable\u201d leadership choices prompted a resignation.<\/a> The fact that the Loki<\/em> star had to address that pain between back-to-back sweeps at the NAACP Image Awards<\/a> and SAG-AFTRA Actor Awards<\/a> drives home Mosaku\u2019s point about the \u201ctainted\u201d moment. Regardless of the challenges Sinners<\/em> and its creatives face, fans and peers continue to surround them with support. <\/p>\n

Several comments praised Lawson and Mosaku for clarifying that the involuntary tics and Coprolalia<\/a> themselves weren\u2019t the issue, but that BAFTA and the BBC could and should have done better. Davidson later revealed in an interview that he dreaded his tics offending someone. Yet, a microphone was \u201cunwisely\u201d placed right in front of his seat<\/a> and the BBC edited other speech that night while leaving the N-word in the broadcast. As the BBC reportedly investigates the incident<\/a>, all eyes remain on Sinners<\/em>. <\/p>\n

This year has one of the most highly anticipated Academy Awards after the film earned a record-breaking 16 nominations in every eligible category. No matter how hard fans root for the Ryan Coogler creation on March 15, this iconic cultural moment is all we need to know that Sinners<\/em> is a winner.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
