A new, terrifying drug smuggling method has hit the Cook County jail. Inmates are getting synthetic cannabinoids soaked into paper, which is smuggled in through books and legal documents. A 12×12 sheet can be worth up to $10,000. It’s already killed multiple inmates, including two so far in 2026, and has led to the arrest of several jail staffers for smuggling. The sheriff’s office chief of staff warned it could be “worse than fentanyl in the street” because it’s so hard to detect. |
