CJNG members used an improvised landmine against a Fuerza de Reacción Inmediata (FRIZ) police patrol in the rural town of El Rayo, in Pinos, Zacatecas on Monday. A video filmed by a CJNG member captured the explosion.
The video, filmed by a CJNG member and later released online, shows a large explosion moments after a Fuerza de Reacción Inmediata (FRIZ) patrol crossed a rural highway. The man filming can be heard saying: “Puro cuatro letras”, a reference to the CJNG, as the IED explodes.
Despite the size of the explosion, authorities reported no officers were injured.
This is the second explosive attack against police forces in the last week in Zacatecas, and the seventh this year, according to
La Jornada. On March 5, a criminal group detonated a car bomb outside the Municipal Police headquarters in Luis Moya, Zacatecas leaving three officers injured, as
reported by Borderland Beat. Both explosions shared the criminal tactic of filming the detonation for later use as a propaganda tool.

Security forces surged patrols in the following days, capturing one criminal in possession of an explosive detonator, tire spikes, and small quantities of narcotics, in the town of La Presita, also in Pinos.
Numerous CJNG narco banners in the state have threated the FRIZ over the last several months, accusing them for working for the Mayo Zambada faction of the Sinaloa Cartel.
