Brandy and Monica will be leading the charge at this year’s stack of women’s music lineup of the 2026 Essence Festival.
This year’s annual festival in New Orleans, Louisiana, is putting women front and center, with organizers unveiling the first wave of performers for this year’s event. The lineup spans generations, pairing R&B icons with today’s chart-topping stars, signaling a weekend-long celebration of female influence in music.
Brandy and Monica, two of R&B’s most celebrated voices, headline the early announcements, promising a throwback to the golden era of 1990s and early 2000s soul. Their inclusion reflects the festival’s focus on honoring artists who helped define modern R&B, with today’s brightest stars Kehlani, Cardi B, and Latto joining them. They bridge the gap between classic and contemporary sounds while highlighting women currently shaping the charts.
Festival organizers shared the lineup in a creative social media reveal, using a typewriter animation to display the names of scheduled performers.
“You asked and we heard you loud and clear,” they wrote. “The countdown to ESSENCE Festival has officially begun, and in true ESSENCE fashion, we’re starting with Ladies First.”
