Wedding Turns Into Tragedy: Ceiling Fire Claims Over 100 Lives In Iraq Celebration

On September 26th, 2023, a wedding hall in Qaraqosh, Iraq, was packed with over 800 guests. During the couple’s first dance, indoor fireworks were set off, igniting highly flammable wall panels and engulfing the building in flames. The fire killed more than 100 people and injured at least 150 others. Authorities warn the death toll could rise. The bride and groom are believed to be among the victims.
