Today Sony Music Publishing announced the promotion of Shane Knotts to Senior Vice President, Global Royalites, effective immediately. Based out of SMP’s Nashville office, Shane will continue to report to EVP, Worldwide Administration, Dale Esworthy.
In his new role, Shane will continue to lead the company’s Global Royalty Center while expanding his focus on enhancing data accuracy, advancing royalty matching through AI and machine learning, and strengthening systems to support the long-term growth of the company and its songwriters.
Shane Knotts said, “31 years later, I am still working for such a great company, doing something that I truly love. The growth that SMP has experienced over those years has been truly remarkable, and I am so very happy to be part of such a great team that continues to go above and beyond for songwriters.”

Shane joined the company in 1994 as Royalty Manager and has built a long‑standing career at Sony Music Publishing, most recently serving as Vice President, Global Royalties. Throughout his tenure, he has been instrumental in advancing the company’s operational efficiency, driving meaningful improvements in data management and royalty matching capabilities on a global scale.
