The dismembered and decapitated remains of seven men were found Tuesday on the Tlapa-Olinalá highway, in Cualác, Guerrero near the border with Puebla.

Witnesses reported seeing armed men throw the remains from a vehicle around 4:30 p.m. yesterday.

Forensic experts from the State Attorney General’s Office conducted the investigation, and the remains were taken to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) for identification. None have been identified yet.

This region is hotly disputed by criminals, with at least three criminal organizations operating in the Mountain region of Guerrero: Los Tlacos, Los Ardillos, and Los Rojos.  They exert significant influence, regularly attacking authorities.

In February 2024, Manuel Eugenio Arriaga Rosendo, councilman for Cualác municipality, was found dead inside his home. Four months later, gunmen shot up the house of the mayor of Cualac, Hazael Aburto Ortega.
